Olfactory Receptor Database: a sensory chemoreceptor resource
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Olfactory Receptor Database (ORDB) is a WWW-accessible database that has been expanded from an olfactory receptor resource to a chemoreceptor resource. It stores data on six classes of G-protein-coupled sensory chemoreceptors: (i) olfactory receptor-like proteins, (ii) vomeronasal receptors, (iii) insect olfactory receptors, (iv) worm chemo-receptors, (v) taste papilla receptors and (vi) fungal pheromone receptors. A complementary database of the ligands of these receptors (OdorDB) has been constructed and is publicly available in a pilot mode. The database schema of ORDB has been changed from traditional relational to EAV/CR (Entity-Attribute-Value with Classes and Relationships), which allows the interoperability of ORDB with other related databases as well as the creation of intra-database associations among objects. This inter-operability facilitates users to follow information from odor molecule binding to its putative receptor, to the properties of the neuron expressing the receptor, to a computational model of activity of olfactory bulb neurons. In addition, tools and resources have been added allowing users to access interactive phylogenetic trees and alignments of sensory chemoreceptors. ORDB is available via the WWW at http://ycmi.med. yale.edu/senselab/ordb/

Feeding behavior regulation in the fly: effect of a noxious substance through the taste and olfactory neurons.
The contact chemosensilla on the labellum of the fly are in the form of a hair housing five sensory neurons, i.e. four contact chemoreceptor cells and one mechanoreceptor neuron (Ozaki and Tominaga, 1999). Three of the four chemoreceptor cells are the sugar, salt and water receptor cells, respectively. The remaining chemoreceptor cell, traditionally called the ‘fifth cell’, has recently been pr...

Crayfish depend on sensilla, small cuticular structures occurring all over their bodies to acquire information about their outside environment. Sensilla contain sensory neurons that are either mechanoreceptive or chemoreceptive. The tail fan of crayfish houses numerous sensilla that contain mechanoreceptor neurons and their activation by animals approaching from behind elicits a tail-flip escap...

متن کاملOCAM: A new member of the neural cell adhesion molecule family related to zone-to-zone projection of olfactory and vomeronasal axons.
Zone-to-zone projection of olfactory and vomeronasal sensory axons underlies the topographic and functional mapping of chemoreceptor expression zones of the sensory epithelia onto zonally arranged glomeruli in the main and accessory olfactory bulbs. Here we identified OCAM (R4B12 antigen), an axonal surface glycoprotein expressed by subsets of both olfactory and vomeronasal axons in a zone-spec...
